One of The Oldest Ingredients in History

Many of us have heard, used or even consumed this ingredient before. If you have an Asian background or are familiar with the Asian culture, this ingredient should not be a stranger to you. In the western world though, it could still be a mystery to many. It might not be the prettiest looking, but the benefits are so powerful and in many different forms. Today we will reveal the power of Ginseng!

The history of ginseng comes from a long way in Asia. When it was first discovered in China thousands of years ago, people were consuming it as regular vegetation, but then quickly discovered its natural healing powers. It was then used in herbal medicines to heal and rebuild the body naturally. Ginseng has the ability to increase the immune system while de-stressing the body once consumed properly. Because of its human-like shape, it has earned its title for "natural human strength". We love using it for making soup, or even having ginseng tea!

So what are the benefits when used on skin?

  • Antioxidant - Because of its immune system boosting ability, it can prevent cells from getting damaged further as we age, in other terms, reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Increased Blood Flow - As we age, our blood flow slows down, so ginseng can increase blood flow around our skin. It increases the chance of our aged skin returning to its healthier condition.
  • Detox - Its powerful ability cleanses the skin and removes those unwanted/damaged cells.
  • De-stress - By relaxing the dermis, which is the layer beneath the skin, it will stimulate and increase the elasticity of the skin, and provide an overall "relaxed" foundation.

As you can see from above, these benefits all lead to anti-aging in one way or another. Ginseng skin care is not something new. Ginseng infused skin care products have been developed for many decades, but as technology is getting more advanced in recent years, the ginseng extracts have become more effective and precise. An interesting note: a good quality, healthy ginseng requires a minimum 5 years of growth before it reaches it's full potential, therefore this ingredient is not something that can be easily replaced. For something that takes this long to grow under the ground, just imagine all the "good" it's absorbed from mother nature before it becomes mature!

As we are talking about this topic during the winter in Canada, we'd like to mention Ginseng's natural heating abilities. Besides the increased blood flow around our skin, it will also produce a warm heat to the body, which is a preferred healing method in Asian medical studies.

Hopefully we have helped you to become a bit more familiar with ginseng. These days, you will probably find this ingredient only listed under some of the higher end brands in Korea, simply because of its high cost to produce and formulate. But be sure to give it a try if you are on the road to fight aging! It is never too late (or early!) to start!

Wishing everyone all the best in 2018, and cheers to healthy, happy skin! 😊
